I am working on a multi-language version of the PWS (in C#). The current version is English only, and is a mix of the original PWS, Your User Management and Blog systems (translated into C#), most of the Media Handling from Matt Gieselman (at one time available for download), and my own extensions (including a Guestbook section and some server controls). As I am working on the new version, I am keeping track of the changes made in some articles that I want to publish with the new version, and provide some code for downloading. As quit a bit of the code originated with you, I don't want to include that without your consent. (As I did not find any specific terms for doing so). Obviously, I will give you credit for your work, would you decide to allow me to include such code.

Hi Jeremy, Nice to see the new look and the long awaited 2.8 I'll be sure to tinker with that in the near future. I like the new look but I think I'm going to try and go for one with a larger width as my blogs get squashed and wrap which doesn't look to good when writing code. Actually, have you looked into a better control than freeTextBox that allows you to enter a code paragraph much like www.asp.net? But congratulations on all the hard work!

Hi Jeremy, ........................ Currently putting the finishing touches to your 2.8 version website for my web presence. I was going to wait but I managed to corrupt my own database on my previous version by attemptng to put some embed code from Youtube site into my blog as follows : ....................... ..............<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tm6Qc5qK5yA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tm6Qc5qK5yA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> .................... This just seemed to corrupt my blog database so I thought I would upgrade (though I realise this might not sort the problem as it is standard comment box code). I didn't actually have a recent backup database of my site so my fault... I should know better....I thoughts on the above problem at all? I appreciate it may not be something that can be resolved though it might be worth mentioning in your blog if no resolution can be found immediately as it causes the home page to error. I didn't have the appropriate SQL Server 2005 tools to resolve my problem alas. Resorted to a March version of my site until I upload 2.8.... Other than that, your 2.8 version looks good so far though I have to put it online as yet which shouldn't take me too long... liked what you've done with it..................... Oh.. just one other thing.. I have a vague memory that there was a parameter which dictated how many blog posts were allowed on the home page for the centre column. I have either imagined this or just plain forgotten it... I have been through web.config and global.asax etc. but with no luck. Is there such a param?

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for approving my registration. I wanted to take a look at your code for the personal web site. Being new to .net I set up a site using the microsoft-supplied code for the personal web site and went through their "extending" tutorial. The content management isn't working and adding new users seems to crash the entire application. Right now I am not sure whether the issue lies with the code or the way I have my server set up. I thought that taking a look at your code might be a step in the right direction. All the best, Matt

Hi Jeremy! This enhanced starter kit is really amazing. You have probably houndreds of hours of hard work behind you. You are a good hearted guy sharing this with others :-) I'm pretty new to ASP.NET and found the original Starter Kit very useful in learning. Your Enhanced Kit will probably give me a really boost in the learning process. I had a lot of problems uploading my original Kit to my Host because they had some lousy sql server 2000 and a crappy controlpanel (and I'm a crappy programmer..). I have today ordered the advanced plan package at Webhost4life. I have registered at your site, but awaits you to activate the account so I can start downloading your enhanced kit. Hey Jeremy I have a question for you. Again thank you for the code. I have been trying to get the email to work but no luck. When someone registers and I approve them the email function is not sending me or them an email. <system.net> <mailSettings> <smtp from="dan@turnernetwork.org"> <network host="relay-hosting.secureserver.net" userName="dan@turnernetwork.org" password="XXXX"/></smtp> </mailSettings> </system.net> This is my smtp setup with godaddy, do I have the settings wrong? Am I missing something? and after I put in these settings is there anything else i have to change anywhere else? I have been trying to get this to work so that I can also do a password recovery and change password. Any Suggestion would help on any of the three things I am trying to do but most important the email.

Hello Jeremy, Good going on this PSK. I would like to ask for a little more favour. Does your download come alongwith Google Adsense code also. Since i have already my site approved as a google adsense, i still do not know, how to place those codes. It would be great if you can kindly give those source codes also to implement in our site too. Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for sharing your work. The user management project is just what I was looking for. My host charges double for SQL 2005 :-( so I have managed to get it working using the MS Access membership provider. Thanks again.

Jeremy, First off thanks for the great code! Second - Can you please send me the script that you sent slipstream77 that had to do with the following error: Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid. I believe I read that particular discussion sometime around March 11, 2007 under your guestbook. Thanks! Great site and thanks for the abundance of help that I took from your forums. Reuben

Hello Jeremy, Its strange that you have still not planned to implement Forums in your website. Forums have become a part of our day to day life. It would be great if you will kindly look at few simple forums and implement in your advanced personal website. This addition will really make it more advanced. Just my 2 cents Paraag P Kantharia

Jeremy, Real good work with this. Still playing with it on a test server without installed smtp. When I try to email a user I created I get the following: There was a problem sending the email. Please check the email address of the sender and the recipient as well as the SMTP setting located in Site Settings under the Manage tab. System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress) at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.InternalConnect(EndPoint remoteEP) at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Int32 timeout, Exception& exception) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.Net.ServicePoint.GetConnection(PooledStream PooledStream, Object owner, Boolean async, IPAddress& address, Socket& abortSocket, Socket& abortSocket6, Int32 timeout) at System.Net.PooledStream.Activate(Object owningObject, Boolean async, Int32 timeout, GeneralAsyncDelegate asyncCallback) at System.Net.PooledStream.Activate(Object owningObject, GeneralAsyncDelegate asyncCallback) at System.Net.ConnectionPool.GetConnection(Object owningObject, GeneralAsyncDelegate asyncCallback, Int32 creationTimeout) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpConnection.GetConnection(String host, Int32 port) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.GetConnection(String host, Int32 port) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.GetConnection() at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) I have uncommented the email section in the web.config and placed the proper credentials for my mail server there, as well as placing the correct info on the site management page. Perhaps you could shed some light as to what I have done wrong

slipstream77, I'll send you a script to insert values into each field. The error you're receiving is common when trying to recreate the database on a host that doesn't support uploading of database files.

Jolanda, If you are using my kit, you will not need the aspnetdb.mdf. That database is integrated with the database in my kit. You only need the database that comes with my kit.

slipstream77, all you need to do is add "Default" to the first row of the ThemeName field in the site_Settings table. Note that the site_Settings table is a configuration table that should only ever have one row.

Hey Jeremy, Thanks again I figured out how to create the tables and everything on godaddy. I hate to hit you up for this but i get this error The file '/Master Pages/.master' does not exist. I saw in a post that you said to manuelly set the theme. I am sorry to ask such a bone head question but can you walk me through it? I have opened the Database and found site_settings this is where i am lost what do i put where?
